621 Section 02 assignment for Class #3


1. Read and study Chapters 4 and 5 in the textbook.

2. Become familiar with use of the AP Stylebook. We'll do an exercise on it next week, so be sure to bring your Stylebook to class.

3. Report and write an original 450-word story on a subject of your choosing. This could be the story you researched for Class #2 or a new story. If you pursue the story you did for class #2 be sure to do any additional reporting and interviewing as necessary. Interview three sources for this story. Print it out, 12-point, double-spaced, staple the pages, and bring it to class next week.

Format the top of the story like this:

4. Post on your blog three times, 150-200 words each. Possible topics:

  • How I went about finding my story, and why I think it's news
  • Observations on readings in the Boston Globe
  • How I am adapting to the specific requirements in the practice of writing the news
  • Observations on readings in the textbook
